Spice Cake


- Buttermilk - Baking powder - Baking soda - Salt - Cinnamon - Nutmeg - Ginger - Allspice  - Clove - Brown sugar - Butter - Applesauce - Egg - Vanilla - Cream (for glaze) - Powdered sugar (for glaze)

Preheat the  oven and prepare cake pan with baking spray or butter and flour. Whisk together flour, baking powder and soda, salt, and spices,


Place brown sugar in a mixing bowl, breaking apart any lumps. Add in butter and apple sauce and mix until well combined.


Add in eggs and vanilla, mixing together. Add flour mixture in two turns, alternating with buttermilk.


Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake until a toothpick or skewer comes out clean.


Cool for 10 minutes in the pan and then turn the cake onto a cooling rack or plate to cool completely.


Make the salted caramel glaze and pour over the cooled cake. Sprinkle with salt.

This cake is also delicious without the caramel glaze or you can use powdered sugar or cream cheese frosting instead.
