Southern Cornbread Dressing

HOW TO MAKE

INGREDIENTS

Cornbread & bread Sausage Butter Onion Celery Green bell pepper (optional) Garlic Sage  Poultry seasoning Thyme Salt & pepper Eggs Chicken or turkey broth

STEP 1

Slice cornbread and bread into cubes.

STEP 2

If the breads aren't very stale, toast until lightly golden brown.

STEP 3

Brown sausage in a large skillet, crumbling it as it cooks.

STEP 4

Add vegetables to sausage and continue to cook until softened. Then add seasonings.

STEP 5

While sausage and vegetables cook, heat up broth until lukewarm and melt a stick of butter. Whisk eggs into broth when warmed.

STEP 6

Mix breads and veggie and sausage mixture with enough broth to be moistened but not soggy to where the bread falls apart.

STEP 7

Pour mixture into an oven-safe 9 x 13 pan and drizzle melted butter on top.

STEP 8

Bake until golden brown and a bit crispy on top.
