Fresh Orange Cake w/ Chocolate Orange Buttercream

Ingredients

- Butter - Sugar - Flour - Baking powder - Baking soda - Salt - Buttermilk - Orange juice & zest - Vanilla - Orange extract - Eggs - Powdered sugar - Half & half - Cocoa powder

This orange cake tastes just like your favorite chocolate orange candy!

Preheat your oven and cream the sugar and butter together.

Sift together: flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.

Whisk together buttermilk, orange juice, and the extracts.

Add eggs and zest to butter/sugar mixture. Alternate adding flour and milk mixtures.

Grease a 9 x 13 baking dish and pour batter into it, smoothing out the top.

Bake about 35 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean. Cool completely.

While the cake cools, make frosting by creaming butter and sifting cocoa and sugar.

Add in sugar/cocoa, zest, extracts, salt, and half and half.

Whip until light and fluffy.

Spread evenly on top of cooled cake and enjoy!

Tip

If you think your cake has over-baked you can moisten it back up by poking holes into it with a toothpick and drizzling an orange simple syrup on it to soak in before frosting.
