How To Organize Your Closet With Do It Yourself Double Clothes Hangers

Is your closet overflowing with too many clothes? Check out How To Organize Your Closet with Do It Yourself Double Clothes Hangers -it's easier than you may think!

Is your closet bursting at the seams in an unorganized mess?  Do you have outfits or suits that you'd like to keep together instead of on opposite ends of the closet?

Do you also have quite the collection of beverage cans and enjoy reusing items instead of always tossing them in the trash or recycling bin?

If so, this super easy and affordable closet organization tip for How To Organize Your Closet with Do It Yourself Double Clothes Hangers is for you!

How To Organize Your Closet with Do It Yourself Double Clothes Hangers

What you'll need:

  1. Clothes hangers - preferably wire or metal hangers as plastic may be too thick. We got ours from IKEA but I've linked to very similar and highly rated clothes hangers from Amazon.
  2. Beverage can tabs torn off from the can. To do this just move the tab back and forth until it pops off.

Put it together:

  1. Place one hole of the beverage can tab onto the hook portion of the hanger and move it down to the bottom of the hook
  2. Place another hanger hook into the other hole of the beverage can tab
  3. Place back in the closet with your desired outfit

How easy is that?!  I love that this also uses closet space more efficiently to save space for more new outfits.

We also don't have a lot of closet or storage space, so this helps so much with having to keep both summer and winter clothing in the same closet.

Sure, you could always just buy double hangers (and here's a link if you'd like to check them out) yourself, but I love that with this tip you don't even have to spend money.

Plus, you can attach as many hangers as you'd want this way, if you wanted to put all your skirts together, etc.

You could even paint the beverage tabs in specific colors to help keep your closet organized by type of clothing, season, etc.

I have a "case of tabs" in the garage. My closets will get organized as soon as all of that Coke is gone!! This is a great idea! These won't fall off like some others that I have paid for and didn't like! Thanks!

That is a great point, Robin! I've had the plastic specialty hangers before that ended up breaking and falling apart but haven't had any issues with this simple fix.

I love this idea but worry that my "frugal" wood hangers (i.e. Ikea/Wal-Mart brand) may not stand the test of time with the weight. I am definitely going to take the gamble and try it though! I have a stash in my "craft" supplies. Thanks for sharing!!

Anne, the hangers we use and that are actually in the picture as well are from IKEA and have held up just fine after at least a year of being used this way. Good luck and thanks for stopping by!
