I was totally shocked when I recently read that most (around 85%) cats already show signs of oral disease by the young age of 3. As a matter of fact, a couple of months ago we adopted a cat that just turned 2-years-old and he already has gingivitis.
When I grew up out in the country, you rarely heard about getting your pet’s teeth cleaned but knew that eventually they’d likely have to get some teeth pulled as they got older.
Thankfully, more information about pet dental care has become available in recent years and we have learned that, much like us, having our cats keep good dental health is very important for their overall health and happiness.
In fact, if it’s not something you stay on top of, it can eventually turn into other health problems just like it can with humans. That’s certainly had me looking for an easy way to help clean my cat’s teeth.
We’re actually going tomorrow to get Oscar’s teeth cleaned since he is already showing signs of gingivitis. We luckily have a place that does all bloodwork, cleaning, extractions, and antibiotics for under $300, which is quite nice as I have been quoted nearly $1000 or more at some vet offices.
Either way, since we have multiple cats, it’s quite the expense to accommodate for each of them. We’ve tried brushing before, but it’s just not an easy feat with a cat, no matter how young they are, and honestly, the stress of it for them is not worth it.
That’s why I was happy to have come across Meow Mix Brushing Bites when I was browsing the cat aisle at Walmart the other day.
Benefits Of Meow Mix Brushing Bites
- Treats are specially designed to help clean your cat’s teeth by reducing plaque and tartar
- Flavor varieties include chicken or salmon aka the flavors our cats love most
- Includes added vitamin D and calcium to help your cat keep strong teeth and bones
That moment when you realize you aren’t getting any more treats…
One thing I find funny about our cats is that they all have different tastes. A couple will only eat dry food and one will eat anything he can.
Some prefer fish while another mostly likes poultry. That’s why I was surprised when each of our cats loved Meow Mix Brushing Bites.
As soon as I set the treats on the couch, while emptying the grocery bags, Toby was up there waiting as he apparently knew what they were. After I closed the bag they even tried chewing it open to get more, so definitely keep the cat treats out of reach to protect them from overeating!
On the bright side, I think our cats will quite enjoy getting the crunchy treat goodness every day to help keep their teeth clean, which makes me a happy cat mom.
