This post about How to Add a Personal Touch to Homemade Gifts with HP FamilyTime is sponsored on behalf of HP. I received an HP PC, an HP tablet, an HP printer, and a Snapfish gift card as part of my participation.
The new HP Chromebook 14 – aka my new best tech product friend.
I don’t know about you, but all of our family and friends absolutely love technology. Honestly, I do too and don’t know what I would do without it most of the time, especially since both Mr. Savvy’s and my own career is made possible due to tech. It’s so hard for me to imagine my own mom growing up during the 40’s and 50’s and even having to still use an outhouse, while today sometimes reading the tablet while on the throne is the only taste of alone time we get. ;) However, one thing I do miss from the time before all this tech and gadgets is that family used to spend much more time together, especially this time of year, getting things ready and making things for the holidays. So, this year, I decided to make the holidays a bit more personal. Luckily, I haven’t had to completely give up my tech and gadget helpers as HP sent me a few complimentary new techie items from the HP Holiday Gift Guide to see how I could implement them into getting ready for the holidays, the HP FamilyTime way.
Our cat Charlie looking out the window at the birds. I can’t help but seeing her as thinking, “Is that you, Santa Paws?” this time of year, though. ;)
Mr. Savvy and I don’t have any kids to dress up with for the super cute greeting cards and the like. However, we do have some seriously adorable, well most of the time, cats. Since most of our friends and family are fellow animal lovers, I decided to be a little silly this year and make a holiday greeting to go with our homemade gifts to add that extra little bit of a personal touch and playfulness the Mr. and I are known for. So, I grabbed my camera and headed to the couch by the front window where most of the cats like to look out and nap at. Getting a good picture of cats, at least of mine, is pretty much like pulling teeth. Our cats are pretty much lazy 24/7, but you pull out the camera and suddenly it’s time to get up and roll around, or at least shake their heads back and forth like they’re real models. Or something. Anyway, I finally got a few good shots of our Tuxedo, Charlie (and yes, she is a female – we named her Charlie because of her “Charlie Chaplin mustache”). I took out my camera’s SD card and put it into my new favorite tech toy, the HP Chromebook 14. Seriously, I’m in love with this thing! Mr. Savvy better watch out. ;) I love it because it’s lightweight so I can easily take it all around the house and the battery power lasts for around 7 hours, so I can be wireless for most of my work day without being chained to my desk. As you can see, I really enjoy working while being comfy on the couch. It was super quick and easy to open up the files on the SD card and proof them. I loved this picture of Charlie peering out the window at some birds. I was able to edit it straight in the file viewer, save and then upload it to one of my favorite online photo editing sites to add in some holiday embellishments. I think it turned out pretty cute, what about you? I was tempted to upload the graphic to Snapfish and order some cards with the image, but I really wanted to try out my other new tech toy, the HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One printer.
I love that the printer is even a bit more cat-friendly than most by having a flat top in case they decide to spontaneously walk across it.
I’ve always been a huge fan of HP printers. I’ve tried several brands over the years and always come back to HP because they’re the easiest to use, perform the best and actually last a long time. Honestly, I still have an HP printer sitting in the closet that’s over 10-years-old that still works. I keep it because even though it doesn’t have all the latest bells and whistles, I know it will still print and do it well if all else fails. The really nice thing about this printer is that it has a touch screen so you don’t have to feel like you’re using a cellphone from 7 years ago, and it’s wireless, which means you can print from anywhere in your home, and the world actually, from your computer, laptop, tablet and even phone. I love having one less cable to attach to my computer!
A few days ago I posted about a new Olive Oil and Sour Cream Pound Cake with Lemon recipe that I came up with that was delicious, but since I’ve been making so many other holiday goodies, I decided to give half away to a good friend of ours that doesn’t really do baking. I actually took the Chromebook into the kitchen with me to follow the recipe I wrote up. So much better than wasting paper by writing the recipe down that I usually end up losing anyway. I had actually meant to make the pound cake in mini loaves, but I just couldn’t find my mini pans. Who the heck can lose mini loaf pans?! This girl! Apparently. Anyway, I wouldn’t be dissuaded from spreading some yummy holiday cheer.
Adding a simple but cute personal holiday greeting with your homemade gifts make them all the more special.
All you have to do is take your yummy baked goods, wrap them up in some plastic wrap (there’s even red or green plastic wrap out now that you can use for some extra festivity), print out your super cute holiday greeting (I know, I’m so clever going with “kat”chen ;)), and then if it’s raining or snowing cats and dogs where you are, wrapping in some additional plastic wrap so your greeting doesn’t get messed up. Tie it all up with a pretty bow to make it extra fancy. And there you have it, a holiday gift that’s easy, heart-felt and festive. I totally <3 HP for making it so easy this year to add a personal touch to our gifts this year!
This year I don’t even have to worry about running out of ink thanks to HP’s new Instant Ink service. It monitors your ink usage and will send new cartridges when you’re running low, plus you can save up to 50% on ink. How cool is that? And yes, they really did send me a mailbox with information about the program! Seriously one of my most favorite marketing items I’ve seen in a very very long time.

Oh and speaking of cats. Never try to take a picture on a piece of furniture in front of the item to get a level and steady shot if you have cats. They’ll just walk in front of you and you’ll end up with a picture like this. ;)
